<p>Gratitude is an attitude of being thankful. While you may not think you have much to be grateful for, if you stop and think, you probably have more than you think.</p>
<p>Many healthy people take their health for granted. Those who have lost the blessing of health may realize too late how grateful they should have been for those healthy years. With good health, you can work to replace anything else that is lost, even if you have to start from scratch to regain the loss.</p>
<p>Most people would be grateful for shelter. Today there are people that would be truly grateful for even the smallest of rooms in most homes to shelter their families from rain, cold or heat and disease carrying insects that might cause death to those who are bitten while sleeping.</p>
<p>Look at the luxuries you have that make it possible to read this article. You have your computer as well as power. For millions around the globe these things don&#8217;t exist.</p>
<p>Have you stopped to be grateful for the food you have in your home.</p>
<p>Tonight millions of children will go to bed hungry. These children are not just in third world countries, but may be just around the block from your own home. They could be down the street or even next door. Yet we find ourselves not wanting what we have but something else, so we head out to dinner without a second thought.</p>
<p>Are you grateful for your job? Recently the economy has been very harsh and many people have lost long term jobs as well as homes. Even after losing a job, many are provided for with unemployment compensation. Until they are able to find another job they can bring home a percentage of the take home pay that they had when working full time.</p>
<p>Have you stopped to give thanks for your family of origin. They provided for you while you were unable to take care of yourself and may have paid your way through college. Tonight there are thousands of children that will sleep in unfamiliar beds and moved to another home tomorrow. Thousands more still live in abusive homes and will go to bed tonight in fear.</p>
<p>With many things to be grateful for, many people still live life focused on only the negative things. They choose to focus on what they do not have rather on the blessings that are a part of life. The result of their negative thinking is that those very things they long for are being pushed away from their lives.</p>

		<title>Your Commitment to Wellness</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Historically, statistics have consistently shown  that although the majority of people commit to fitter living for the New Year,  only a minimal percentage keep their commitments   above and beyond the 6 week mark.</p>
<p>What does this tell us?  I believe that it shows that we either set goals that are unrealistic or that we have yet to master the habit of keeping our word and being disciplined.</p>
<p>It is crucial that we understand that our dignity and confidence are directly related to our ability to do what we say . Our inner power is equivalent to the power of our word.</p>
<p>By consistently keeping our commitments (ie. doing what we say we are going to do) we tell the world that we can be trusted.  As such, the more we say something and it occurs, the more we trust ourselves because everything we say comes true.</p>
<p>For instance, how do you feel when you say you&#8217;re going to do something, like runnig 3 times this week, and then not do it?  Pretty crappy right?  I know I do.</p>
<p>There is a saying that goes &#8220;How you do anything is how you do everything&#8221;.    If you discover that it&#8217;s quite difficult to maintain commitments in one area of your life I am willing to bet that this disposition  will also be apparent in other aspects and areas of your life  .</p>
<p>So what is the solution to keeping your commitments?</p>
<p>First, NEVER commit to something that you are not going to do.  Success breeds success, but if you keep setting yourself up for failure by committing to things that don&#8217;t get done than success will only be an illusion for you.</p>
<p>Second, make your word law in the universe.   Make sure you vocalize to the universe and to yourself that you are going to do what you are going to do.</p>
<p>Your word should mean something to you because it definitely means something to others.  What if someone told you that they would take care of a pressing matter for you and then didn&#8217;t do so?  Would you believe this person worthy of your trust?  Probably not.</p>
<p>Take the example of ancient warriors &#8211; they would die to keep their word because to them their word meant more than anything else.  You too can become a warrior, a wellness warrior (without the death), by committing to <a href="http:www.eatingforenergy.ca" target="_blank">living healthy</a> and keeping your word.</p>
<p>Third, commit slowly and complete readily. Work up to what you commit to by first making small commitments and building on them.</p>
<p>For example, you might declare that &#8220;each morning I will meditate for 5 minutes before breakfast.&#8221;  By completing this morning meditation and doing the same with other commitments, pretty soon whenever you declare something it will be as good as done because of the experience you now have of doing everything you say.</p>
<p>This is very powerful.   Don&#8217;t forget, when you declare your statement verbally or in writing, you have committed yourself to it.  Your word is now out in the universe.  Will you uphold it?</p>
<p>Being true to yourself, being whole and being balanced is what wellness is all about.  To be whole and truly satisfied in life you must be able to trust yourself.</p>
<p>So keep your word.  Teach yourself, and others, that you can be trusted.  Make realistic commitments and stick to them.  You will feel better about yourself and you will achieve your goals in no time.</p>

<p>Dining out when you are on a diet can be very difficult.  This is especially true for people that love to eat like I do.  </p>
<p>The good news is that here is no reason why you have to give up dining out all together.  </p>
<p>You just need to understand that there are adjustments that need to be made and different things to consider when someone else is preparing your food for you.</p>
<p>Generally speaking restaurants use more salt and more butter than anyone would normally use cooking at home.  This can have a huge impact on your calorie intake unless you do something about it.</p>
<p>It is no longer unusual to ask servers at most restaurants how things are prepared and most restaurants will offer you options without any fuss.  Simply requesting that your food be broiled or baked instead of fried is huge.</p>
<p>Low sodium options are now pretty standard too.  Don’t be shy, just ask.  Aside from asking about low sodium options, there is absolutely no need to add salt to any dish you are served at a restaurant.  Rest assured there is plenty of salt already in the dish.</p>
<p>If you are a calorie counter, most restaurants serve portions that are bigger than the portions you are giving yourself at home.  Simply don’t eat it all and take a doggie bag home.  Cleaning your plate is a habit from the fifties.  Don’t waste anything.  Take it home.</p>
<p>Sauces and salad dressings are two other killers at restaurants.  Get your salad dressing on the side every time and when you get your salad, don’t pour the dressing on your salad, dip you salad in bite by bite.  This way you will use half the dressing.</p>
<p>Sauces in general are fattening.  The best advice is don’t get your dish with the sauce.  If you absolutely need something, lemon juice is good for fish and mustard won’t kill you.  Dry seasoning is usually ok too, but be careful about sodium with the dry seasonings</p>
<p>Other good tips are don’t eat bread before your meal and drink water or a glass of red wine instead of soda or juice.</p>
<p>Generally speaking it isn’t carbohydrates or calories that make you gain weight.  It’s BAD calories and carbohydrates that do.</p>
<p>Don’t eat anything white.  Order brown bread, eat red potatoes and don’t use white sugar.  Use honey or carry stevia packets around with you.  You can get them almost anywhere now.</p>
<p>Eating out on a diet plan is a necessary evil in most of our lives because we are so busy.  Social pressure and a healthier outlook by society in general have made it much easier to eat well when eating out.  You just have to use a little common sense</p>
